We all love to pack our heaters and such, and adding the latest bang-bling to a gun is a surefire was to get some 'ooohs and aaaah's', but if you shook down every soldier and Marine in the field you would probably find one if not more knives on them. The humble cutting instrument has not changed much in several centuries, being a business end and a gripping end. I carry two sometimes three knives on me while on duty and always one off duty. In the trunk of my squad car I have two fixed blade knives to supplement the folders I carry on my person.

Cold Steel Recon 1- This is my primary carry knife for all purposes. It has a carbon steel blade and a lever lock near the hinge. The pocket clip can be moved from one side to the other for personal preference. The blade came from the factory razor sharp and has only needed a touch-up here and there. The blade is coated with an epoxy based covering to protect it. I have used this knife for a year now and love it.

CRKT M-16- I carried this knife for several years on patrol. It has a half serrated half standard blade in the Tanto configuration. The blade is secured with at liner lock system. I can deploy and retrieve the knife very quickly due to my method of carry. I have noticed some corrosion in the corners of the blade from sweat and rain, but it has seen many a rainy and hot day.

Cold Steel Survival Rescue Knife (SRK) I think this is one of the best knives for the money, with the Cold Steel Recon Tanto, and the Ka-Bar. The blade is thick and strong, and is made out of Carbon V steel. A heavy epoxy coating provides great corrosion protection. It also was razor sharp from the factory and has not needed any touch up yet, even after several hard cutting jobs. I have used this knife to dispatch a wounded deer, and it made short work of that.

Gerber LMF II ASEK- This is my latest addition. The knife was designed more as a general tool rather that a cutting instrument exclusively. The blade is stainless steel and covered with a non-reflective epoxy coating. The handles are a firm polymer and are isolated from the shaft of the knife. The pommel has a window breaking point and a flat back that can be used for hammering. The sheath has a built in field grade sharpening stone.

Pics to follow soon.

Post write-ups and pics of what you carry. Does it work? Does it rust? Does it stay sharp?

My great grand-daddy said the best pocket knife in the world aint worth a dern if you dont use it.

I see you have good taste, I too have a CRKT M-16 with the tanto blade. I also carry a benchmade that I got overseas. Both of these blades keep a good edge and are easy to open. I do need to discuss M-4 issues with you as well.

I am normally found now with my Cold Steel AK-47 on my strong hand side and a S & W of some type on the other. Neck Knife is optional depending.

I'll bet they regret that. You're so ugly you could be a modern art masterpiece.

I roll daily with my Emerson Wave Commander that has been converted to a concealed Auto by Butch Valentine. Weak side is my omnipresent $4 acehardware superknife. Sunday-go-to-meetin blade is a Protech Godson Auto with Maple burl handles. Real purdy.....
